About
God has blessed Goa with various natural gifts, one of the most precious Divine gifts is
communal harmony. In fact, Harmony and Peace is equated with “Goanness” that existed
among her people down the centuries. Goa stands out like a shining example to the rest of the
subcontinent. The Society of Pilar, which was founded in Goa on 26th September 1887, want
to commit zealously to guard and pass down this great heritage to the coming generation.
The Society of Pilar cherishes the noble understanding of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (“the
whole world is one family) and has been engaging in the promotion of peace and harmony
through its institutions in Goa and beyond. The ‘Pilar Hillock’, on which the motherhouse of
the ‘Society of Pilar’ stands, has been an abode of culture, spirituality, dialogue and harmony.

Through ‘Sadbhav’, we will foster values of peace and harmony and strengthen the ideal of
harmonious living in our communities, neighbourhoods, educational institutions, and places of worship.

Our Objectives
Live Together (Fraternity and Social Friendship)
to facilitate genuine interaction between adults, spending quality time with each other, through structured interfaith programs., for the purpose of establishing good will and harmony in society.
Share Together (Strengthening Harmonious Living)
to facilitate deep interaction among youth for creating interreligious awareness, overcoming prejudice and building solidarity through organized interfaith programs.
Celebrate Together (Cultural Celebrations)
to forget, forgive and replace past negative history of conflict and violence, through the celebration of common cultural festivals (e.g. harvest festival, musical programme); moving forward to build peace-loving people in solidarity.
Pray Together (Interfaith prayer meet)
to connect with people spiritually and experience religion not as a source of conflict but source of peace and active coexistence.
Reflect Together (Dialogue of theological exchange and religious experience)
to increase awareness and understanding of religious beliefs and practices thereby demystifying the knowledge and stereotypes people may have about their own and other religions.
Act Together (Inter-faith Social Action)
to put common values into action and demonstrate faith communities’ commitment to the common good.
Think Together (Conference/Seminar/ Workshop)
to enhance awareness, knowledge and
understanding on local, national and global issues and work together in effecting positive social change
